My fish pond is netted, now what? Long Valley- Morris County NJ
Fall is rapidly approaching and you have netted your pond or we have been there to do so. The plants are cut back and it certainly doesn't look as pretty as it did during the spring or summer. Typically during this time of year we tend to forget about our ponds, don't do that!
1.Keep an eye on the pond netting. If the leaves are accumulating quickly blow the leaves off the net or use a skimmer net to remove some of the leaves off the pond netting. 2. If you have a skimmer, check it weekly. Even thought there is a net on your pond some stray leaves may enter the pond, but the skimmer will grab them for you. Make sure you are emptying the basket. 3. Evaporation happens! Yes, the water in our ponds and water features will still evaporate during the fall months. Keep an eye on the water level and top the pond/water feature periodically. 4. If you add water treatments, continue this until at least the end of October.
Continue to do these four things throughout the fall to ensure a safe and happy winter for your fish friends.
